July brings the heat — more days above thirty than Prague used to see — and the biggest tourist crowds of the year. The Castle, Charles Bridge and the Old Town Square are at their fullest from mid-morning.
The way to do it is to rebuild the day: sights before ten, a museum or a long lunch in the middle, and the evening in the parks and beer gardens, where the city itself goes. Letná at sunset and the Riegrovy sady garden are at their best in July.
5 and 6 July are public holidays, which makes a long weekend when many Czechs leave town — so the centre stays busy with visitors while the neighbourhoods go quiet.
What to know
- 5 and 6 July are public holidays.
- Many older buildings and cheaper hotels have no air conditioning — check before booking.
