Which terminal

Terminal 1 handles flights from outside the Schengen area, including the UK; Terminal 2 handles Schengen flights, including those from Romania. The two are connected on foot, and the public transport stops serve both.

The three real options

1. Trolleybus 59 plus metro A

The cheapest way in, and for most visitors the best. Trolleybus 59 runs from outside the terminals to Nádraží Veleslavín, where you change to metro line A, which runs straight through Malostranská, Staroměstská and Můstek. One 90-minute ticket covers the whole journey; a 24- or 72-hour ticket bought on arrival does too. Buy it in the PID Lítačka app, from the machines at the stop, or at the transport desk in arrivals.

2. The Airport Express bus

The AE line runs from the terminals to Praha hlavní nádraží, the main railway station. It is the simplest option with heavy luggage if you are staying near the station or catching a train onward. The catch: it is a special line with its own fare, and ordinary PID tickets and passes are not valid on it. Pay on board.

3. A booked transfer or taxi

Fastest door to door — around half an hour outside rush hour — and the obvious choice arriving late, with children, or at an address in the Old Town, where no bus stops outside. Book it in advance for a fixed price, or use the official taxi rank or a ride app such as Bolt, Uber or Liftago.

The one to avoid

Never accept a ride from someone approaching you inside the terminal, and do not get into an unbooked car without an agreed price. Use the official rank, an app or a booking.

Getting back out

Allow more time than the map suggests, particularly on weekday mornings and Friday afternoons, when the roads west out of the city clog. Metro A to Nádraží Veleslavín and trolleybus 59 avoid the worst of it and are the more predictable choice if you have a flight to catch.
