November is the quietest stretch of the autumn. The weather is usually grey and damp, the days are short, and prices are low — a month for museums, concerts, cafés and long dinners rather than views.
17 November is the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution and a public holiday. On Národní třída, at the memorial where the students were beaten in 1989, people light candles through the day — a moving, uncommercial thing to witness.
At the very end of the month the Christmas markets open on the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square and the tree is lit, and from that weekend the city changes gear completely.
