February is still cold, often colder than January, but the days are an hour longer by the end of the month and the city is just as empty. Hotel rates stay near their floor everywhere except the Valentine's weekend.
It is the month for the things Prague does indoors: the National Museum, the Jewish Museum synagogues, the Strahov Library halls, a concert at the Rudolfinum, and long evenings in a beer hall. On a clear frosty morning the view from the Castle ramparts or Letná is as good as it gets all year, with no one in front of you.
Masopust, the Czech carnival, fills a few squares and neighbourhoods with masks and parades before Lent — small, local and worth catching if the dates line up.
What to know
- Masopust (carnival) dates move with Easter each year.
- Valentine's weekend lifts prices on the romantic hotels in Malá Strana.
