April is when Prague turns back into an outdoor city. The orchards on Petřín blossom, the beer gardens on Letná and in Riegrovy sady reopen on the first warm weekends, and the Easter markets fill the two big squares with painted eggs, gingerbread and ham on the spit.
Easter itself is the expensive weekend of spring, and the Old Town is busy. The weeks either side of it are some of the best value of the year — mild days, long evenings, prices still below summer.
The month ends with Čarodějnice on the 30th, the old witches' night, when bonfires burn on Ladronka meadow, on Petřín and in neighbourhood parks. It is a local evening rather than a tourist event, and all the better for it.
