Petrin Tower

4.5(36,536)out of 5 on GoogleClosed · opens 09:00📍 Malá Strana · Praha 1

Prague's own little Eiffel Tower, standing on Petřín hill with one of the best views over the city.

It was built for the Jubilee Exhibition of 1891 by members of the Club of Czech Tourists, who had been inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris two years earlier. It is about 60 metres tall, but because it stands on the top of the hill, its upper platform is roughly as high above sea level as the top of its Parisian model. Around three hundred steps lead to the top, and there is also a lift.

From the platform you look across the red roofs of Malá Strana to Prague Castle, the bridges and the spires of the Old Town. Nearby on the hilltop are the Mirror Maze, built for the same exhibition, the Štefánik Observatory, a rose garden and the Hunger Wall, a medieval fortification running down through the woods.

You can walk up through the orchards from Újezd or Strahov, or take the Petřín funicular, which reopened with new cabins in September 2026 and has its own fare unless you hold a 24- or 72-hour public transport ticket. The walk up is especially beautiful in spring, when the fruit trees are in blossom.
